ARTIST TALK: JASON CORFF. MAPPING PLACES: CARTOGRAPHY AND CHOREOGRAPHY IN ARTISTIC RESEARCH
ICA Yerevan invits to an artist talk by Berlin-based choreographer, researcher, and performer Jason Corff.
Since early 2018, Corff has been researching ways in which bodies occupy, interact with, and understand space and place. His particular focus has been on certain overlaps of cartography and choreography, developing methods for building performative maps of place.
During this talk, Corff will share his research trajectories and how he has used his time at the NEST Art Residency to apply choreographic methods to explore and map Yerevan, creating a new performance work “at the edge of Somewhere”. His talk will include a video screening of his piece “The Approach and the Square” (2021) followed by a question & answer session. The event will be held in English.
His new performance work “at the edge of Somewhere” will be performed at the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (NPAK) on on Saturday March 29 th at 5pm.
Jason Corff (*1979, US) is a choreographer and researcher based in Berlin (DE). Complementary to his movement practice, Corff additionally worked for nearly fifteen years in the field of interior design. This split career path has influenced his aesthetic focus and multi-faceted understanding of ways in which space can be defined from artistic, utilitarian, and theoretical standpoints.
