EXHIBITION: JOHANNA BINDER. BECOMING ISLANDERS

OPENING: 17/03/2026, 18.00

Curatorial concept: Anežka Januschka

Exhibition “Becoming Islanders” explores environmental engineering, colonial power, and speculative ecology. It is based on Binder’s research on the colonial history of Ascension Island. It focuses on the migration of plants, their coexistence, and their interactions with human and non-human actors in an environment that today functions primarily as a military and communication base.

Johanna Binder studied painting and animation at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and is currently a PhD candidate in artistic research at the Mozarteum Salzburg. She was a scholar at Van Eyck Academie and the Leuphan Arts Program at Leuphana University Lüneburg. In 2024 she received the Art Albina Award and in 2022 the Theodor Körner Prize. Her work has been shown at institutions including Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Salzburger Kunstverein, Xiao Ying Art Museum and Fünfzigzwanzig.

The gallery is open every week from Thursday to Saturday, always from 11am to 7pm.
