EXHIBITION: ŠPELA AMBROŽ / VIOLETS

OPENING: 22/01/2026, 18.00

UGM Šop, Strossmayerjeva ulica 6, Maribor

Curator: Jure Kirbiš

UGM Šop presents Špela Ambrož with an exhibition of prints for sale from her Violets series. In this series, Ambrož draws on scenes of football matches, specifically those played in Maribor. She uses recordings of these sporting events as her point of departure, capturing frames that are compositionally, chromatically, and narratively compelling, depicting moments of fans’ fervour and (un)sportsmanlike conduct of players. Thus, she reflects on the football match as an aesthetic experience worthy of artistic exploration. The prints were created using the solvent transfer technique, which introduces unpredictability and a subtle sense of humour with each impression. The exhibition is an opportunity for the audience to discover playful yet thoughtful worlds in each print and to introduce contemporary printmaking into their homes.

Špela Ambrož completed her Master’s in Art Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor, and is currently completing her Master’s degree in Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Zora Stančič, MA. In her work, she explores the interplay between traditional techniques and contemporary media, such as video, animation, and installation. Her practice examines themes of identity, memory, and the intersections of personal and societal narratives, merging material/analogue and digital elements through print, photography, and moving images.
