Echoes of the Fjord (Δ) by Nina Tobien

Between Iceland and Berlin, a painting practice unfolds –
attuned to the lingering presence of place in matter.

Stone, water, lichen, moss: substances that transform and continue to breathe within the work – slowly, persistently, in contact with light and time.

Color arises from movement. Mineral and botanical pigments respond to moisture and temperature.
Canvases dyed in the Icelandic fjord – exposed to snow, northern light, and charged currents, immersed in mineral baths.
In Berlin, these traces condense, settle, and dissolve again.
The material flows, evaporates, blooms – yet its handling remains controlled, precise, still.

Painting as a porous field – within a quiet rhythm where the material and the atmospheric meet.
In the space, it extends – scent, ceramic forms, sound: traces of the same resonance, a faint echo of matter and time.
