OPENING: THIRD SKIN | Donation Hoffmann Collection

Curators: Dorothée Brill, Luise Richter

Monica Bonvicini, Charlotte Moorman, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Pipilotti Rist and Jenny Saville are just some of the names whose works will be on view at OP ENHEIM from September 17.

Coming from the internationally renowned Sammlung Hoffmann, based in Berlin, and the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the works were selected by curators Dorothée Brill and Luise Richter. Collector Erika Hoffmann once described clothes as a second skin and her collection, which she has lived with since the late 1960s, as a third skin. Like the title, the exhibition is inspired by presentations in the Berlin rooms of a pair of collectors and focuses on the dialogues that arise between individual works in the intimacy of OP ENHEIM’s former living spaces.

Characteristic of the collection is a variety of artistic confrontations with the conditions and limitations of the human body, with its social imprints, socially assigned roles and loud or silent, perceived or unnoticed breaks from these assignments. Against this background, the works shown at the THIRD SKIN exhibition focus on the human body, the human equivalent, interpersonal communication and on dissolution, inclusion, transformation and disappearance. At the same time, these works concern the boundaries between painting and photography, sculpture and performance, surface and space. They cross and blur these boundaries. Part of the Sammlung Hoffmann was transferred as Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann to the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden.

The exhibition was created in cooperation with the OP ENHEIM Foundation and Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden.ORGANIZER: OP ENHEIM | VOPCO-ORGANIZER: SKDHONORARY PATRON: WOMAKPATRON: GENTZ, SDZEGAL SchindhelmPARTNERS: KEIM, OPEN ADVERTISEMENTMEDIA PATRONS: Radio Nowy Świat, Format, Gazeta Wyborcza, Magazyn SZUM, PURPOSE, OCZY MAG, Law Business Quality, WroclifeProject co-financed by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation and the Municipality of Wrocław
