Permanent Home of Displacement
Permanent Home of Displacement features the works of five Crimean Tatar artists whose practices explore the topics of fractured belonging, memory, and connection to a home lost.
At the heart of the exhibition are the works of Yusuf Abibulaiev, Renata Asanova, Emine Ziyatdin, Sevilâ Nariman-qizi, and Elmira Shemsedinova.
Through painting, photography, video, sculpture, ceramics, and installation, artists explore the experience of losing territory, land, family archives, mythology, the impossibility of learning about one’s buried roots and culture, as well as how fragmented memories can be transformed into new forms of artistic expression and cultural presence.
Curated by Maria Kulykivska and Dana Neilson Permanent Home of Displacement provides a space where art transforms the fragments of personal and collective histories into new visions of home and community.
