On 29 August, at 7 pm, we invite you to the M17 CAC (Kyiv city, Ukraine) for screening of the second part of the film trilogy The Gaze of the Sun by Anatoly Gankevich.
While the first part was about the element of water and the past, the second film from the trilogy “Full Sun” is dedicated to the element of fire and describes the present. The filming took place during the pandemic in Gankevich’s hometown of Odesa, Ukraine, and the final cut just happened at the beginning of the war. The pandemic served as a transitional period from the past to the future in the Eye of the Sun project. To another world that is being formed at the moment – to the present living in an enterprise, like an obscene circus show.
“Full Sun is an absurd anti-utopia about Ukrainian reality, telling about people, located in a fictional world in the style of grotesque and clowning. In the modern world, a person observes reality in fragments. It constantly switches from one process to another without waiting for the finalization. Actions in the film are fragments, stage acts and situations that form in the viewer a sense of meaninglessness in anticipation of the unknown.” ~ Anatoly Gankevich
Mythopoeticism is perhaps one of the main characteristics of Gankevich’s work. The films in the trilogy are far from being classic films. His short stories are impossible to retell, as if retelling a dream, a trip, or the state of being in love again, when the world comes to life and seems to begin to speak with signs, hints that reality is something else, immerses the viewer in reflection.
“This is a state of fragile idyll, complete balance of the universe, not overshadowed by the burdens of knowledge or the temptation of original sin. The emptiness of completeness and the fullness of emptiness as it is.” ~ Alisa Lozhkina
The event is part of the Garden of Dreams exhibition project at M17 CAC.
