SCREENING: LETTERS FROM WOLF STREET
U-Jazdowski Cinema invites to the screening of Arjun Talwar’s film Letters From Wolf Street (Poland/Germany 2025, 97′).
A street in the heart of Warsaw. Arjun Talwar, who emigrated from India a decade ago, still struggles with a sense of alienation — and Wilcza Street doesn’t make it any easier. In an attempt to assimilate, the filmmaker begins to document his neighbors, often putting their relationships to the test. Yet Arjun keeps searching for new ways to bring two worlds closer together.
With the help of Mo, his university friend — also an immigrant and filmmaker — Arjun uncovers the hidden stories of the street and a network of fascinating characters: a postman who delivers not only letters but also recipes for loneliness; a man from Damascus trying to reconstruct his hometown from memory; a wandering brass band, and many others. The director comes to realize that they have more in common than it seems — all live between past and present, between an imagined homeland and the real one. The street connects them like an invisible thread, offering solace amid the melancholy of everyday life.
From barely one kilometer of Wilcza Street emerges a portrait of contemporary Europe — a kaleidoscope of contradictions and anxieties. The film challenges stereotypes, seeking to blur the imagined boundaries between neighbors. Poland, often perceived as homogenous, unwelcoming, and conservative, is given a chance to look into a mirror in which an immigrant filmmaker paints an intimate portrait of his new country — with humor and a sense of perspective.
The world premiere of Letters From Wolf Street took place at the Berlinale, followed by its international premiere at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen and its Polish premiere at Millennium Docs Against Gravity, where the film won the Polish Competition Award of the Association of Arthouse Cinemas. The film continues its successful festival run, collecting further accolades — including the most meaningful ones, those awarded by the audience.
