Sofia City Art Gallery
The Sofia City Art Gallery hosts museum exhibitions, curator projects, solo and group exhibitions of works by Bulgarian and foreign artists. The gallery presents artworks from its collection through thematic, genre-oriented, style-based, and historical exhibitions. The presentation of travelling exhibits constitutes a vital part of the gallery’s policy of openness to global art trends. It also organizes retrospective exhibitions of works by prominent Bulgarian artists, while keeping in close touch with young artists and curators. It works in partnership with plenty of Bulgarian and foreign institutions in support of the common goal of developing the contemporary art scene.
Today, the museum has four departments: painting, sculpture, graphics, contemporary art and photography, and the collection consists of more than 23,000 works of Bulgarian artists from the end of 19 century to date. Part of its sculptures are arranged in the open in the City Garden.
