EXHIBITION: DISAPPEAR BY THE VISTULA. KONRAD PUSTOLA

Curator: Stach Szabłowski

Coordinator: Renata Zawartka

The first comprehensive exhibition of works by Konrad Pustoła, one of Poland’s most respected photographers of his generation. The career of the artist, born in the 1970s, was cut short by his untimely death at the age of 39. However, he left behind tens of thousands of photographs, texts, as well as sketches of unfinished projects. As an artist, he crossed the boundaries between socially engaged documentary and art, and sought a dialogue between traditional photographic technique and digital photography.

Among Konrad Pustoła’s key issues were the question of the artist’s social responsibility and that of how the Polish landscape has changed under the influence of political transformation and globalization. The artist had a background in economics, which translated into his particular sensitivity to the impact of economic processes on society.

The exhibition will be complemented by a presentation of works by the winners of the Konrad Pustoła Memorial Scholarship.
