PANEL DISCUSSION: LCCA, PORTABLE LANDSCAPES: REFLECTIONS ON MIGRATION FROM THE BALTIC REGION

The event will bring together Baltic artists Viktor Timofeev, Maria Kapajeva, Agnė Juodvalkytė, and Artūrs Punte to explore contemporary issues of migration, identity, and language. Through discussions, performative gestures, and screenings, the artists will delve into the historical connections between migration and the region’s past, examining its influence on current societal dynamics. Additionally, the event will address language as both an element of the migration experience and a lingering mark of Russian colonialism on the Baltic social and political landscape.

The Pickle Bar event is based on the LCCA project “Portable Landscapes,” curated by Andra Silapētre and Inga Lāce, and realized in cooperation with Kai Art Center and Mo Museum in Vilnius. “Portable Landscapes: Reflections on Migration from the Baltic Region” is sponsored by the Baltic Culture Fund.

Viktor Timofeev is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York. His practice is shaped by personal experiences, speculative narratives, and everything in between. He holds an MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and a BFA from Hunter College in New York. In 2018, he co-founded No Moon, an event space in Brooklyn where he organizes monthly events, including screenings, performances, and sensory deprivation listening sessions.

Maria Kapajeva is an artist working between the UK and Estonia. Her work focuses on highlighting micro-histories and peripheral stories, driven by a feminist desire to bring them to light. Her artworks are part of collections such as Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art and Tartu Art Museum. She is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD at the Estonian Academy of Arts and runs her studio, Circle in Cube, in Tallinn, which serves as a space for sharing art, ideas, and mutual support.

Agnė Juodvalkytė is a visual artist living between Berlin and Vilnius. Her artistic practice is centered on abstract painting and textiles. She earned a BA in Painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts and studied Visual Arts in Spain at the Universidad de Castilla La Mancha.

Artūrs Punte is a poet and interdisciplinary artist. He has worked as an editor, compiler, and publisher. He holds degrees in poetry from the Moscow Literature Institute, graphic design from Riga 13th Vocational School, and plant growing from Bulduri School of Horticulture. He is one of the founding members of the Orbita association. In recent years, his focus has shifted towards sound installations and the creation of unconventional sound instruments.
