08/03/2025, 16:00 (English)
Laura Gozlan is a Paris-based artist who is currently taking part in the residency program of Studija Space. As part of the residency, she conducts research on regional folklore as well as vernacular and intangible culture. Gozlan addresses how folklore can reflect modern identity crises and how these cultural elements are reborn in the popular horror genre. Gozlan’s artistic work also looks at the monstrous side of a woman, in the context of March 8, questioning the gender roles and their stereotypes within the society.
Gozlan studied scenography at Helsinki’s University of Art and Design and EnsAD in Paris. She graduated from Le Fresnoy, National Studio of Contemporary Arts, in 2007, where she studied with director Chantal Akerman. Gozlan has exhibited her work in various French institutions and internationally, including MoCo in Montpellier, 40mcube in Rennes, and Futura in Prague.
Her films and installations depict outrageously articulated moments of desire and satisfaction in contrasting, intimate settings. Featuring darker elements, her work questions social norms and explores the aesthetics of prosthetics and aging. Recently, Gozlan directed a series of micro-fictions in which she performs, documenting the transformations of a recurring androgynous figure navigating through cosmetics, politics, and altered states of consciousness, exploring their transformative potential.
On March 8 one can book a bus ride Rīga-Kuldīga-Rīga. Price – EUR 20, which includes the trip and dinner in Kuldīga. Please apply in advance +371 2 6317179.
